  1. I think my field experience is definitely a start in the direction towards me making an impact on the students. That also depends on the students in the class i am currently at, but i think i bring something to the table. I believe that my cooperating teacher would agree that the fact that when there is another adult in the room, sometimes many, its beneficial to the learning process of the students for their to be multiple minds working with them and molding. That was the best way i could word that haha sorry. I think that if i was in the classroom every day all week all year, yes i would make a SIGNIFICANT impact on the students learning, and i don't mean to beg big headed. I bring an engaging spirit and specific knowledge of my content area to the table and think that i could only enhance the students experience.

    1. I agree, definitely walking in with a smile and an interesting personality really sparks something in the students.

    2. I like the ideas of you talking about how you bring an engaging spirit and specific knowledge of your content area to the table and think that you could only enhance the students experience. I also believe that your cooperation teacher would agree and happy to have you in the class.

    3. I definitely see many benefits of having another teacher in the classroom like you mentioned. That is awesome that you are having such a great experience! I would totally agree that you make a difference even coming in just once a week.

    4. I think knowing the content can make a huge difference with students. Even if you don't know the answer immediately and have to look it up, you build a repertoire with students and show them that you are resourceful and knowledgeable. I'm glad your experience is going well thus far.

    5. I agree I think if we were in the classroom every day we would impact the students more. Right now I think the students see us more as buddies and might not take this opportunity seriously because they only see us once a week.

    6. I almost think that being in the classroom just once a week is beneficial to the students because they get more excited when you are there and there's something new and different. I think it makes them more engaged.

    7. I think that you are probably correct in thinking that your teacher appreciates the help that you give. Being in a classroom year round would definitely make the impact that you have more noticeable, I often feel the same way.

  2. The most recent time I went to Mrs. Speer's class, the students were filling out sheets for parent teacher conferences. They had things on them like I need to work on ____ and my favorite subject is _______ and another thing that I thought was very interesting, which was asking the students about technology in the classroom. Jayna, my student, put down that her favorite thing to do was reading, and she said it was because the teacher had books that she liked. I think is is an awesome reflection of Mrs. Speer's classroom and that her students enjoy reading because they have selection. Jayna has also started getting more words correct when she reads! I have been trying to get her to use context clues when she reads and doesn't know a word, or I'll try to help her make some sort of connection to the word to help her figure it out. I've tried this in the past and it hasn't gone well, but this week it worked tremendously well. I was so excited, and she was reading about wells and began telling me about her grandpa and I was so happy to hear that she was making connections to the text. I think I have made some sort of impact on her because she has begun to share more with me and seems to enjoy reading more, and when I offered to read a passage for her, she told me that she would rather read it to me. I think her confidence with reading has improved and I love being able to see these changes right before my eyes.

    1. That's great that you are seeing improvement in your students! I think the students love making connections because they love to talk anyways and tell you about everything.

    2. I really like the way how you were engaging in the class and how you worked with your student and helping her.

    3. That is incredible! It must feel amazing to get to see that kind of change before you. Congratulations on all your work and on her's. It sounds like you are doing such a good job at being there for the students and helping the students learn. I hope your experience only gets better from here!

    4. I am so excited you are enjoying impacting Jayna's experience. I also loved the activity Ms. Speer used because it made the students think about their improvements!

    5. That's awesome Lori! I know how great it feels when you can actually see the difference you are making with a student. Asking the students about the technology in the room is very interesting was it a question about the purpose of or the opinions about technology in the classroom?

    6. I'm so happy that you have made such an impact on Jayna! This is truly amazing how much progress it seems she has made! I believe that you do make a difference not only in her life but also the other students and your cooperating teachers life.

  3. I think that the most positive impact I have seen as a result of my work in the classroom is with a student I worked with two weeks ago. She is a struggling reader but has been asking Ms. Brown to be paired with a college student during reading times. I have worked with her twice thus far. Last time I visited the classroom, Ms. Brown asked me to first observe a new student in the classroom and then second read with the student from previous weeks. I was very excited to do both, but unfortunately I was unable to work on reading with both students. There was not enough time to meet with the second student, but the girl came up to me before I left and said she cannot wait to read with me next week because she has been reading a lot more and really enjoys the book she is reading right now. I think that Ms. Brown would agree that I have impacted this student's life. I think that more so though that the students at the school impact me more than I impact them. I love going to the school every week and seeing the students learning and getting excited about school. I don't know what I did to impact her life so much, but maybe she just appreciated someone being there for her. I think that as a teacher I will focus particularly on being there for my students and always listening to them first. Their needs come first and then their education.

    1. I wish we had more time with the students! I agree, that teachers need to be there for their students, kind of like a second support system.

    2. Yes! I love going to the school every week as well, seeing their faces, which make me happy. I believe you did impact a lot in that class and I think the students love having you around.

    3. I think it is amazing that you are seeing positive feedback. I think it helps to make a connection with the students and that they start to feel confident around you.

    4. I like how you gave a specific example of a student's life that you impacted. The fact that you made her enjoy reading more is really awesome!

    5. Having a case study student allows you to really look in depth at the impact you are having in the room and it shows how the students comprehension either grows or suffers.

  4. My cooperating teacher is very organized and she believes in me that whenever I come to class, I could be a student helper. I always engage with the students in class and I love sharing my experiences with them. They love talking about their family and favorite things that they love to do. There are many lessons plan that need to be preparing for equipments. I normally helping her with that the most because she needs to control the class and she needs everything to be ready for the next lesson. She has many students come and help her all the time. I might make the classroom difference sometimes because I share my culture and they like listen to me. Even though sometime, they don't know the vocabularies that I say. It 's a chance for them to learn new vocabulary. The cooperating teacher agree to have to share my experience in the class and I am so glad to be in this class.

    1. I agree, I'm happy that you share your culture and allow them to ask questions about it. I also agree that there is no harm in learning more vocabulary words.

    2. That must be such a cool experience to get to share with the students about your culture every week and they share about their lives. I think that is is great that you are helping teach them new vocabulary. The more, the better! It sounds like you are really getting to learn about how to manage a class throughout the day.

    3. I'm glad your teacher is making an effort to include you in teaching. I think observation is important, but hands-on experience is key. I also think its great that you are able to share information about your culture. I always found students from different cultures fascinating when I was little

    4. I am so happy the cooperating teacher allows you to teach about your culture. I also agree with you and Shannon in the fact that the more vocabulary that is learned the better!

    5. I think this was a really cool response because none of use really have the opportunity to share a different culture with the students. How did you incorporate that into the lesson and how did the kids react? I think it's valuable to be able to share that kind of stuff and open kids' eyes to other cultures in the world because it may not be something they have experience learning about.

      Delete
    6. It's great to be able to share about your culture! I'm sure that it is something that students find incredibly interesting. What kind of lessons has the teacher been asking you to help prepare? Do you think they are effective lessons? I know last year when I worked at McIntire the Kindergarten teachers greatly appreciated my help making sight word books and I imagine that your cooperating teacher feels the same way.

    7. I think that is a great sign, seeing that your teacher has all the faith in the world in you to be a significant helper. Your cooperating teacher has a lot of trust in you and that is probably because they see the reaction the kids give while you're around them and the impact you are having on them.

  5. I like to think that I have made an impact on their lives, simply through the way they greet us coming through the door. If I have not made any impact with them through reading then I hope I have turned a bad day into a good one or at least clearing up their confusion about something whether it is related to the topic or not. I would think my cooperating teacher would agree because she walks around and not only watches the students but watches all of college students as well.

    1. That is wonderful! I would assume that you have definitely impacted their lives for the better! You are so positive, I am sure that your attitude has helped improve their days. I hope that the rest of your experience goes just as well!

    2. That was happened to me sometimes, teacher always walk around to see the reaction that I have with her students and the most important thing to me is she always like asking me if everything is alright.

    3. Even if you're not making a huge impact on their reading, at least you are forming a connection with a student. I think this can be just as important as teaching them. My cooperating teacher does the same thing--she always listens to what we tell the children and while sometimes it makes me very nervous, I think it also makes me try harder because I know she is judging my future teaching.

    4. Like Meredith said I am sure you are impacting kids lives. Give yourself some credit! You are an amazing colleague and Im sure your enthusiasm on teaching comes off when working with the kids which is an impact on them.

    5. Just being someone that can answer a question definitely makes an impact for the students even if it isn't in reading it still makes a difference. I think that your would probably agree.

    6. I like how you really took anything positive you could get out of the experience. I agree with you that we make their day whenever we come into the classroom and that is just as huge for them as reading. I also think that you have also made an impact on their reading as well, even if it was a very slight improvement.

  6. Overall I think I am impacting my buddy by asking about his day. It seems that he is lacking that type of interaction with the teacher because he is always enthusiastic whenever I ask him random questions before we read. Maybe this has something to do with his focus on reading? Overall I believe I am creating more confidence in my buddy in reading because he is reading more bigger sections of the book, something he would not have done at the beginning.

    1. It's so true that you can have an impact on the kids by doing something so easy and small. Just by showing that you care by asking about their day can make such a difference to them and I think that's really powerful.

    2. This means so much to a kid when you ask them about themselves and give them individual attention. They feel appreciated and feel like they matter to you. Keep doing this because this will make a huge difference in his life! It is great that you are seeing improvement in your reader!!

    3. I too have jumped into a harder selection of books with a struggling reader. we have work together a few times now in addition to her working closely with Ms. Downey. She is now excited to read because her phonics is improving!

    4. That is so cool to notice improvement with your buddy. I have seen you guys working together and I can tell her really likes you. He also enjoys being at school. He may not always be excited about schoolwork, so it's good you give him a little time to talk about something else. I like how one day you told him after you guys were done reading that he could draw. This definitely made an impact on how he worked for you that day.

  7. I think I have made an impact just by being there as extra help. I know the teacher would agree because it's probably hard for her to keep up with everything by herself every day and me being there makes it easier on her. I think I have made an impact by being able to focus on individual students. Whenever I come, it's kind of like a rare and new thing for them, so they get more excited about doing the activity when I am working with them. Also, I can help them with whatever they need, whereas they might not get that kind of help on a regular basis because the teacher has to focus on everyone.

    3. I think that i have transitioned from a "new and fun thing" to a "regular fun thing". I used to walk in the room and the students would be super interested in talking to be and procrastinate. Now when i enter, the students begin to work diligently and try to all show me their work, its almost like a competition of comprehension haha.

    4. I really see us going in one one every week as very beneficial and I keep thinking this is how a classroom works and that I'll get extra help, but that's not always the case. McIntire is right by a college so they are lucky to have us helping out, but when I was in grade school we never experienced help from college kids. I love the help we give, but I can't think I'll always get that in my classroom, so I need to start observing and thinking of ways I can help individual students when I am on my own in the classroom.

  8. The most recent time I went to Mcintire was with another class (making up for the sick day Oct. 24) as usual I think that being in the classroom does make a large difference for the teachers. It allows them to have an opportunity to allow individuals to be focused on. The student especially seem excited to work with us and that could make them learn more effectively.

    1. I especially feel like there is a difference when I am asked to work with a struggling reader; because it gives that student one on one time that they wouldn't necessarily be able to get without me (or the other Westminster students attending)

    2. I agree that you feel you make a difference when you work with a struggling reader. I feel the same way and the look on their eyes when you actually take the time to sit and help them read is wonderful.

    3. Yes! I love that students are getting individual attention. Every student needs individual attention whether they are struggling or not. I really make a point to not only work hard with my buddy, but whenever we are walking around I go to the ones who are exceptional and tell them how good of a job they are doing.

  9. My experience in the field is definitely the start of me impacting the students. I think I have impacted the students and made a difference by the way they light up when we come and how excited they are. I also think they love when we come into the room just as excited as they are. I know every time I walk into the classroom I am excited to see them and be a part of their learning experience and their lives. In the classroom I have made a difference by when they do group work and have their hand raised they get a response pretty quickly rather than waiting for one teacher going around to each group and waiting a while for a response. I think Ms. Downey would agree because I can tell that she appreciates our assistance in group projects and assisting the students in reading.

    1. I feel the exact same way about how I have impacted the kids lives in the third grade classroom I am in. When they light up and get all excited once we arrive then it's a sure sign we have made an impact in their lives. It is one of the best feelings ever. I enjoy going to the school so much. Also we definitely give a lot of assistance in the classrooms when we come.

  10. So far I have impacted the kids lives, in and out of the classroom. Since Fulton is a small town, I do see some of the kids in my third grade classroom are town. I see them walking to school when I am walking to school, at westminster events like Spooky Sidewalks, or at the grocery store. Every time one of them sees me, you can tell they remember me because they just stare. I make sure to give them a big smile and a wave. I have noticed this absolutely makes their day and it makes mine too. Inside the classroom, I can tell I have impacted their lives by simples things like they remember my name, they're excited to see me, they want to tell me about their lives, they all wish I could work with them that day, and they're happy and comfortable. Being happy and comfortable in the classroom is very important to me. I think once community is established in the classroom then you are ten steps ahead.
