  1. I am enjoying just spending time with the kids. I think they are a lot of fun to be around and the things they say are interesting and sometimes funny. I like to watch them as they are learning new things or when they correct themselves after making mistakes. At this age, they are excited to learn and they have so much energy. It makes it so much more enjoyable to be a teacher when the students are excited to be there. Sometimes they have trouble with behavior and I don't know exactly how to deal with that, but I think that comes with time.

    1. I agree, they do say the most interesting things. I also like to watch them interact with each other as well.

    2. I too do not know how to deal with their behavior sometimes. I love how at this age students are eager to learn and how they have so much energy. I remember one time last year in Blue Jay Buddies my study buddy was so hyper from having candy she had to pace around the room because she needed to get out energy before she could focus.
What was the most funny thing you have seen a student do so far?

    3. I completely agree. The students always keep me on my toes filled with excitement. They are so funny and have so much to say. I think that controlling excitement will come with time especially when you are an official teacher and you will be directing their energy towards one activity or another.

    4. Those kids are what makes us love our job so much! I think a lot of the not knowing what to do will come with experience. I feel like that's why so many teachers leave the profession within the first few years of teaching because they haven't found out their strategies for dealing with certain situations.

    5. I love kids and it seems like you love them too which is good! Everyday is something new which is so exciting. I also have a similar problem as you when it comes to discipling the students. I don't want to be mean.

    6. I understand how you feel, I love seeing the students in preschool. Sometimes, they make me feel like I don't want to leave the class. They many experiences to share with me all the time. I love talking to them but sometimes it is hard to deal with the situation that you had.

  2. I am enjoying my field experience in all aspects of it actually. My favorite part about my observations would have to be the fact that i get to work with the kids often as i walk around and "check for understanding" during most reading blocks. The students are really happy to see me when i arrive and sad when i leave. i think they want to impress me when i am with them which is something else that i also love to see because then they are working harder and becoming stronger learners.

    1. They are really happy when they see us walk through the door or down the hallway! I think that is my favorite part.

    3. Isn't it a great feeling to have students be happy when they see you? It makes your day a little bit brighter. Seeing students happy to see me will definitely get me through a horrible night of grading or whatever!

    4. That is awesome! It sounds like you are having such a great experience! I hope it only continues to grow.

    5. It's good the kids like you. I feel like it would be really hard as a teacher if your students don't like you and respect you. What will I even do if that happens? I guess just build a strong relationship with them and show them I really care and then why wouldn't you like someone like that? I don't know! I worry a lot, but I hope you are getting excited for student teaching!

    6. I am glad to hear that the students are really happy to see me when i arrive and sad when i leave. Teaching and helping the students are the most important and I think the students can't wait to see you next week.

  3. I am really enjoying my field experience. I love when I walk through the door along with the other college students their faces light up and they smile and wave. I want them to keep paying attention when I show up and leave but its hard not to smile and wave back because I do feel they enjoy us being there. I really like that we are not there to observe but to "facilitate" because then I don't think it would be exciting but you have to start somewhere. I don't have a bad thing to say. I like comparing the students to myself when they read because some of them are really good readers and I'm really impressed with some of them. I wasn't a very good reader until about seventh grade.

    1. I agree I love this experience because it is more hands on. I was an accelerated reader (reading on a high school level in 4th grade) and so was my brother. It was not until a couple of years ago at my job and this field experience that I had to deal with lower than average readers. This experience especially being a more challenging opportunity allows me to assess a lower than average reader and trying to find out what interests him in order to make reading more fun and less of a hassle for him.

    2. I also agree with your response. I love the excitement the students have when we show up to observe/help/teach/facilitate. I can definitely see their enthusiasm for reading and how much most of the students have been working on becoming better readers throughout this brief semester.

    3. Seeing those kids faces is what's so great about this job. We are truly impacting those kids lives! I hated reading when I was in elementary school. I only met my AR goal one out off the five years I was in elementary. So crazy how every student is different!

    4. I am so happy we don't just sit there either. Whenever I do just observe I am always just sitting there dying to go be involved with the students. Whenever they have a question I love answering it for them. I know this will die eventually because they ask so many questions but that's just kids in general. They are so curious so I have to make sure I don't show they are asking too many questions and annoying me because it's good they are asking questions. Sorry I just went on a rant!

    5. Observing is one of my favorite things to do in the class. Helping teacher preparing is one of my favorite parts also because I could learn many things from helping and some of them are good strategies that is helpful for my classroom in the future.

  4. Overall I am enjoying my experience mainly because I love the kid I am working with even though he does not necessarily like the topic we are reading. I found out this week he is very interested in drawing. Like it was mentioned in previous blogs the social studies articles we are reading are really boring to kids (and quite honestly to myself).. Do you think I should suggest to my teacher to allow my buddy to draw a response to the reading to maybe engage him in the article more or should I just sit back quietly and watch my buddy not enjoy school?

    1. I am so glad you are enjoying your experience. I would totally suggest to your teacher to allow your buddy (or even the whole class) and alternative drawing response. The students could always read an article, draw a response, and write a reflection on how the drawing relates to the article if she wants the students to write.

    2. I totally agree, those articles are terrible. And yes I think you should! And if she doesn't like it, then you can't change her mind. However, you'll be able to use this experience for your own classroom! It's great to get to know your students and find out their interests!

    3. I don't think you should make that suggestion to him because you don't want her to think you don't agree on the assignments she is making her kids do, but I don't think you should tell her you have observed that your buddy loves drawing. It may be something that she has not observed yet and she will keep that in the back of her mind for the future. Rowdy is a cool dude! I like him as well.

    4. I agree, even I tend to think that the social studies articles are kind of boring and also hard to read for some kids. I would suggest something fun to do with them.

    5. I always find myself gravitating towards one particular student. i see a lot of my 3rd grade self in him. I believe i am making a significant impact because of the significant extra time i spend with him. He really makes my experience!

  5. I am truly enjoying watching the application of all the lessons we experience in the classroom applied to elementary level students. I love to help them work through their confusion in regards to vocabulary comprehension and the one-on-one reading interventions. I think it is extremely interesting to visit with so many different students and learn about the varied reading level in the classroom first-hand. I am always excited to watch, help, or even teach during the class. I love seeing the strategies I am learning about helping the students learn more effectively and efficiently rather than a student trying to learn everything on his/her own.

    1. It sounds like you're having a great experience! This will truly help us shape our own idea of teaching. I love how you've been able to experience many different elements within these short months.

    2. I love seeing the students in preschool. Sometimes, they make me feel like I don't want to leave the class. I always help teacher in the class preparing and getting ready for the next lesson plan. I think it is very helpful for me in the future.

    3. I happy to hear that you enjoy your experience. I often don't want to leave because I truly feel the students enjoy having us around.

    4. Sounds like you are having a blast! It is great that you are seeing different strategies to help students. What kind of strategies will you use in your own classroom?

    5. In my classroom application is a little rough to look for because the students always need to be reminded or steered in the right direction from time to time. BUT once the ball gets rolling you can pick out the strength of the students comprehension easily and see application; if i need to step in i can.

  6. What I enjoy most is being able to experience more than just reading. While I thoroughly enjoy getting to work with these kids on their reading and English goals, I also enjoy just being able to see how Mrs. Fitz interacts with the kids. I will never be able to observe enough of teachers handling students when they misbehave or watching them praise the kids for working hard. Although this cannot prepare us enough due to the vast variety of students and situations that we will face as teachers, it's great to see how others handle them. It's also nice how we are able to reflect on what we see and either adapt that into how we want to teach or add it to our what not to do list.

    1. I agree, I love seeing how Mrs. Speer interacts with her student. However I would love to be there for when Ms. Nichols teaches again so I can see how someone closer to our age interacts with the students. I am glad you are having a fun experience so far!

    2. It is great that you witness the interaction between the teacher and students. It is a great way to help you become the teacher you want to be. Also I'm glad that you are able to reflect. I do that too and it is beneficial because I feel that reflecting helps us prepare for the future.

  7. I really like having a buddy because we are building our relationship every new time I come in to help, but I feel like she gets less and less focused each time we work. I have to remind her to stay focused and get her work done, so we can do other fun things like drawing a picture or something. It's good that she listens to me though. Maybe if she didn't have me every time and did not know me as well then she wouldn't listen as well. I think her not paying attention is just how she is as a student, so she just needs motivation there. I love going to the school and seeing not only my buddy, but all the other students as well. I get to talk to my buddy and some other students, so when they greet me and say my name it's the best feeling ever!

    1. I love how you have a special connection with your buddy. I bet she really enjoys seeing your face every Friday! I noticed when I see one of the students in my class outside of the school they recognize me and say hi.

  8. One of my favorite weeks, it was yesterday. OMG! it was so much fun to see how they dress up for Halloween. I was enjoying to see them spend time together and gave each other candy.
We went to nursing home and spending time with elder people. The students were singing Halloween's song and dancing. I took a video of them and it was the sweetest things I have ever seen. Seeing them smile and sharing their love to elder. I totally enjoying this class and they made my day.

  9. I am enjoying the students and spending time with them. They are very interesting and have a lot to say. I love going around while they are blogging and have them explain to me what they read. It is really interesting listening to what they thought the article was about. One of my favorite things is helping the students to read. Even though it can be frustrating at times, it is so satisfying seeing their faces when they read an article they thought they couldn't read.

    1. My favorite thing to do while they are blogging is to fix all their grammar mistakes haha. A group of girls swore to me that there was no space after a period between itself and the new sentence...
